Best places on Koh Samui, Thailand

Having lived happily on Koh Samui since 2012, I wanted to share a few tips with you on the very best places to visit on the island.

Time to relax

Jungle Club
The name may be a little misleading but the Jungle Club is in fact a place of peace and harmony, where you can overlook the island in all its glory. Located near Chaweng Noi, high up in the jungle, you can sit back on a comfy cushion or relax in a hammock, enjoy a drink and really just take in the view. While it’s a shame the beautiful infinity pool is now reserved for guests only, Jungle Club is still one of my favorite places on the island. You can drive up on a scooter (1 person only) or the staff can pick you up from the main road with a jeep.

Intercontinental
This is the best sunset location on Samui with one of the most stunning views! You just feel like a queen lying on the big couch beds, surrounded by the amazing architecture and enjoying the sunset. While it is a little pricey, I can strongly recommend the (Virgin) Mojito along with that sunset view – a winning combination!

Rock Bar, Lamai
For those who don’t really like the posh beach clubs on Koh Samui, you will love the Rock Bar. Close to the Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks in Lamai, it‘s a real chill-out location with super relaxed people around and will meet all your expectations of a real reggae bar.

Life is better at the beach

Silver Beach
I’m not actually sure if this beach has been renamed to Crystal Bay or only the hotels around it have, but it’s definitely the best beach to enjoy a fresh coconut and have a good chat with a friend. In high season, it can be a bit crowded but in low season it’s just a beautiful little bay with fine sand, surrounded by rocks and natural scenery.

Northwest Beaches
It’s in the northwest of the island that you can find the most untouched beaches. This area is perfect if you don’t want to see any other tourists—an ideal spot to enjoy time on your own and immerse yourself in nature.

Coral Cove
My home beach. It’s super small, not the best sand, but considering its close proximity to the busy spots, it’s unbelievably quiet—sometimes even empty! Another wonderful thing about Coral Cove is the nearby restaurant, which is run by a very funny local family; I just love their laughs.

And while I prefer little bays, those of you who love longer walks and nice sandy beaches are sure to find what you’re looking for over in Chaweng Noi, Bo Phut or Mae Nam.

Healthy, yummy food

Art Cafe, Bo Phut
This is one of the best options on Samui. Not only is all of the food fresh and healthy, the space is filled with little details and decoration that really make it stand apart from the other cafes on the island. Sip tea, choose a book to read from the vast collection lining the walls or just sit back and appreciate the unique atmosphere of this quaint little place.

Sweet Sisters
It’s little bit tricky to find and quite far away from the main hustle and bustle of Samui, but if you’re travelling between Lamai and Natong, Sweet Sisters is a must-visit. The menu is super varied, super healthy and there’s lots of love in the preparation.

Regular events

Every Friday: Bo Phut market in Fisherman’s Village.
Every Sunday: Brunch at Nikki Beach or Beach Republic from 11am onwards, followed by Lamai walking street market in the evening.

So many places like Vikasa Life Cafe, the SPA are still missing! A complete collection of all recommendations you can find here.

Enjoy the best places on Koh Samui. See you around!
